A short history of Bombora
Bombora Outrigging Canoe Club, Bribie Island was formed in 2016.
It began when Roz and Peter Fritz moved to the Island and were seeking to continue their love of paddling. At that time no Outrigger Club existed on the Island, so Roz and Pete set about obtaining outrigger canoes to get not one, but two Clubs up and running on the Island.
The initial base for Bombora, with two older OC6 canoes was at the end of South Esplanade where they were tied up to a tree when not in use.
The canoes were then relocated to Welsby Parade and beached just below Air Force Park. Here a new canoe joined the fleet, ‘Rainbow Spirit’. The Club was very proud of this new OC6.
In 2022 after lobbying the Moreton Bay Regional Council, Bombora were granted permission to move to an unused piece of land at Kalmakuta Drive, Sandstone Point.
This is where you will find us today.
So from humble beginnings in 2016 we now have our own compound where the canoes are securely locked away. It has been worth the struggle!
Please come and join us for a paddle. We are known as a welcoming and friendly group.
